POLICE were called to St Peter’s Way today after reports that a car had crashed into the back of a lorry, bringing traffic to a standstill for several hours.

Officers were called to the Manchester bound carriageway on the A666 at about 9am after a Jaguar X-Type collided with a lorry.

No-one was injured and a lane was closed to deal with an oil spill.

The lorry’s container was removed and both the car and lorry recovered from the road.

Traffic was backed up until just after noon when a second lorry arrived to recover the removed container.

There were no reports of any injuries but the car was badly damaged.
