A MAN damaged T-shirts worth more than £250 after exposing himself in TK Maxx, a court heard.

Ajit Kerai admitted damaging the T-shirts in the Trinity Street store after previously denying the offence.

Bolton Magistrates' Court heard the 27-year-old had originally pleaded not guilty to a charge of intentionally exposing his genitals.

But at a hearing yesterday he pleaded guilty to a charge of causing public nuisance by exposing his genitals.

The Bolton News previously reported how security staff at the clothes shop had called police after they saw a man performing exposing himself inside the store.

Officers arrived on the scene at about 11.40am on June 11 this year, and made an arrest.

Clothing worth £256.81 was damaged in the incident, the court heard.

Kerai, wearing a blue cardigan and jeans, appeared for the brief hearing with members of his family and followed the proceedings with the help of an interpreter.

Defending, Adam Whittaker said Kerai, of Salisbury Avenue, Heaton, originally comes from an “extremely remote village” and that he speaks with an unusual dialect.

He added that this had caused difficulties in interviews and asked that the case be adjourned for three weeks for a pre-sentence report to be compiled.

Chair of the bench Catherine Mahr agreed with the request for an adjournment and told Kerai he would be due back before magistrates again on October 29 for sentencing.

Kerai was granted bail on condition he does not go back to the store.

Mrs Mahr said: “The bench agrees that a report is necessary. We will have to adjourn the matter for three weeks and ask that a report is prepared.

“You are released on conditional bail, the only condition being that you are not allowed to enter TK Maxx at the retail park in Bolton.”

Kerai will appear before Bolton Magistrates Court again for sentencing on October 29.
