RESIDENTS in Little Lever are battling to stop congestion caused by parents on a school run.

Parked cars regularly blocked off pavements and driveways during school pick-up times, infuriating the residents in Durham Close.

An alleyway at the end of the street, which acts as a shortcut through private land to Masefield Community Primary School and Ladywood School, has been blamed for the problem.

Residents have been campaigning for Bolton Council to take action and put in preventative white lines and bollards, but say so far the measures have been ineffective.

Paul Hilton has lived in Durham Close for more than 40 years and says residents have been trying to curb the congestion for more than 18 months.

He said: "Everyone is in agreement that we need to do something.

"At the last Area Forum they said they would fund the bollards but nothing has happened.

"White lines were put down but they don't help.

"I've been assured things are going ahead but it's been very slow.

"We're just a bit disappointed that not a lot has happened."

Cllr Sean Hornby said the issue had existed for many years and said the Little Lever and Darcy Lever area forum would pay for the bollards to be erected on parts of the street.

The issue is due to be discussed at the area forum tonight at Christ Church Hall, in Mytham Road.
