TENNIS superstar Ana Ivanovic will NOT be making Bolton Arena her training base — contrary to reports in the national media.

But Bolton Arena's head of strength and conditioning Howard Green will form part of the star's team as she trains in the region.

The Serbian player has upped sticks from her home in Switzerland to be closer to her footballer boyfriend Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The former world number one has been spotted out and about in Manchester after German midfielder Schweinsteiger moved to the city to play for Manchester United.

The current world number 15 revealed her plans to train in the North West in Beijing, where she was knocked out of the China Open at the semi final stage.

But reports that she would be based at Bolton Arena appear to be wide of the mark.

Ivanovic told reporters: "I will be based more in Great Britain now. It just came about. I think for me it's very important to have a good team and to feel comfortable in the environment."

Asked if she would be based at Bolton Arena, where her physio Howard Green is the head of strength and conditioning, Ivanovic said: "Yes, I'll be in that area."

However, The Bolton News has learnt that she will instead train at the Northern Tennis and Squash Club in Didsbury.

Ivanovic is set to surround herself with her predominantly British coaching team of coach Nigel Sears, assistant Andrew Bettles and physio Mr Green.

Mr Green, aged 33, is based at the Bolton Arena, opposite the Macron Stadium where he is head of strength and conditioning.

He has been at the arena for the past five years and is regarded highly in the tennis world.

German captain Schweinsteiger, who has made more than 100 appearances for his country, was regularly pictured cheering on his girlfriend at Wimbledon this summer.

According to Bolton Arena’s website, Mr Green runs tennis-specific sessions for players “taking into account the physical qualities required to play at a high level and reduce their risk of injury.”

Paul Bartle, managing director of Bolton Arena, said: “We are all delighted for Howard as he continues to be a great asset at the arena.

"The new role is a mark of the quality of our coaching team here.”
