A BOLTON couple proved they were game for a laugh with a unique Game of Thrones wedding photograph.

Avid fans Jonny Hill and Mairead Boden-Hill, from Astley Brook Close, shunned tradition in favour of the wrath of the White Walkers for their special day.

Marrying in Northern Ireland 's Tollymore Forest, where the forest scenes of the hit series is filmed, they were inspired to bring a bit of the fantasy series into their photographs.

Belfast-based photographer Andrew McKenna captured a shot of the wedding party — including best men and bridesmaids — running scared down the hills with champagne in hand during the celebrations on September 26.

He later used computer graphics to add the menacing image of a White Walker to complete the unique but eerie image.

Mairead, aged 34, who works in customer services, said they had chosen to marry close to her home in County Down and could not resist taking advantage of the series' filming location.

She said: "I went to school with Andrew, he was in my art class, so I knew how arty he was.

"It is a great photograph, everyone loves it.

"We were supposed to look scared running down the hill but we couldn't stop laughing, Andrew had to do a lot of takes.

"I was the worst, running in the dress I thought I was going to go head over heels.

"It was a wee bit of fun. Everyone who knows us knows what our personalities are like and knew we would do something a little different from the norm."

Jonny, aged 29, who works for Edge Hill University, met Mairead in Ibiza five years ago and they have lived in Bolton for four years.

Since putting the photograph online it has gone 'viral' and been picked up by Game of Thrones fan sights as well as newspapers in Northern Ireland.

The couple are also Star Wars fans and are expecting another wedding photograph themed in honour of the show soon.

In the meantime the White Walker picture is expected to take pride of place at home in Bolton.
