FIVE Bolton Wanderers fans have been banned from going to football matches for three years — after brawling with Watford supporters before the opening game of last season.

Up to 30 rival fans clashed in Market Street in Watford town centre on Saturday, August 9, 2014.

Five Watford fans have also been banned for three years.

At St Albans Crown Court 10 men who appeared for sentence having pleaded guilty to or having been convicted of affray.

Judge John Plumstead said: "The days of terrifying football hooliganism seem to have receded but there was an unpleasant echo in August last year in Watford town centre."

Tommy Cochrane, aged 18 and of Heysham Drive, South Oxhey was sentenced to 120 hours' unpaid work and ordered to pay £150 costs.

Joseph Griffiths, aged 30 and of Theobald Street, Borehamwood was sentenced to 3 months jail.

Darren O'Brien, aged 24 and of On The Hill, Watford was ordered to do 120 hours' unpaid work and pay £150 costs.

Jake Farquharson, aged 19 and of Russell Court, Bricket Wood was ordered to carry out 120 hours' unpaid work and pay £1,000 costs.

Marcus Page, aged 20 and of The Mead, Carpendens Park was ordered to carry it 120 hours' unpaid work and pay £250 costs.

Christopher Smith, 24, of Milton Road, Radcliffe, Bury must carry out 140 hours' unpaid work and pay £500 costs.

Jordan Johnson, 22, of Jethro Street, Tonge Fold, was sentenced to 130 hours' unpaid work and must pay £150 costs.

Philip Hales, 42, Devon Close, Little Lever, Bolton must pay £1,000 costs and carry out 120 hours' unpaid work.

Ashley Lowe, 27, Thomasson Close, Bolton, who has already paid £6,000 in legal aid, was conditionally discharged for 2 years.

Stuart Burton, 49, Freshfield Avenue, Great Lever, must carry out 120 hours unpaid work and £100 costs.

At the time Supt Sue Jameson said: "The disorder took place in a busy road in front of shopkeepers, people going about their daily business and families with children who were on their way to watch the first game of the season."
