SUPERMARKET worker Edward Cardwell is in the pink — after raising £500 for charity by dying his epic beard then having it shaved off.

The Fresh Production Manager at Asda in Moss Bank Way, Astley Bridge, braved the shave for the Tickled Pink breast cancer charity campaign.

But in an added challenge, he also spent the day sporting bright pink facial hair.

The 27-year-old, from Manchester Road, Bury, sprayed his beard the pink last Friday — and waved it goodbye the very next day.

He said: "It was a bit of shock having a pink beard. There were a lot of young kids staring at me when I walked past but it was a good laugh.

"I had been growing the beard on and off for two years and I've only been in this store for seven months so a lot of people don't recognise me now.

"We shaved it off in the foyer in front of everyone, it was nerve wracking, and I'm growing my beard straight back.

"If we raise enough money next year I might do it again."

Mr Cardwell had his beard shaved by Astley Bridge barber Jeff James, and donations made by store staff and customers raised £500 for the campaign which supports Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now.
