NEIGHBOURS have complained that not enough is being done to stop their road from flooding.

Complaints came in after heavy rain on Monday and Tuesday caused the road and pathway at Pimlott Road to disappear under about six inches of water with one garden in particular suffering the blunt of the rising water.

It is thought the problem was caused by leaves blocking the main drain at the bottom of the road but some neighbours the road has been a problem for several years and can overflow during the lightest showers.

Neighbours first noticed the problem in the morning on Monday and soon found themselves faced with a rising water level.

Pete Best, whose son lives on Pimlott Road, said he was unable to get past the flood when he went to pick his grandson up from school in the afternoon.

He said: "I've been on to the council because my son lives there and there are young children who live up there. It's ridiculous, people say it's been like that for years but the council never does anything about it. It's every time it rains.

"It happened about two or three weeks ago. Last time it wasn't that bad because it just came up the kerb but this time it was flowing down into the gardens and covered the corner of the street.

"You couldn't walk through it because it was too deep. It was right up to the fence and the houses. I had to turn around and walk back up the street and around the other way to get past."

Mr Best posted a picture of the flood on Twitter and the Facebook group 'I belong to Bolton'.

Others who live nearby quickly responded and said the flood was not the first and that similar problems had happened at the junction of Stephens Street and Waggon Road.

William Ogden said: "It's been like this for the last 40 years they have never done anything about it."

A Bolton Council spokesman said: “We had a report on Monday and a crew went out and cleared up the excess water.

"There have actually been only two reports of flooding in the last year, and it’s due to leaves covering the gullies.”
