BOLTON'S youth MPs will take their seats in House of Commons to decide what the next Parliamentary campaign will be.

Ebony Cropper and Tresor Mbuyi will take part in a debate with their fellow "MPs" to debate which issue affecting young people should be fought for.

Top issues facing young people which will be debated will be the living wage, a curriculum to prepare children for life, mental health, transport and tackling racism and religious discrimination, particularly against people who are Muslim or Jewish.

The issues came out on top in the Make Your Mark consultation — is the largest youth consultation in the UK — with 967,000 young people having their say.

Schools across Bolton also took part, with an impressive 8,150 young people voting in the ballot.

The debate will be chaired once again by John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons on Friday (November 13).

Ebony said: “This year, there was a huge turn-out of young people joining in the consultation, and I hope this year, like every year, our vigorous debating on November 13 will help us pick the right campaign for the young people across the UK.”

Tresor added: “Make your Mark is an incredible opportunity for Youth MPs to engage with the young people they represent in their constituency. I myself have relished interacting with them and familiarising myself with their views and opinions.

"Young people view Make your Mark as a plausible route to change, both locally and nationally.”

Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Youth and Sport, Cllr John Byrne, said: “The Youth MP scheme enables the young people of Bolton to get involved in the issues that directly affect them, and to get the chance to take part in a live debate in the House of Commons is a fantastic opportunity.

“I hope they make the most of their visit and be inspired to continue their interest in social affairs.”

Ebony and Tresor were elected as Bolton’s Youth MPs in 2014, and will serve in their posts until 2016 when there will be another election.
