RESIDENTS on a housing estate say they don't know whether they are coming or going.

Two connecting cul-de-sacs in Farnworth have caused confusion for householders and visitors thanks to their unusual layout – giving two addresses on the same road.

With an entrance off Glynne Street, Trentham Avenue is home to more than 20 houses and the entrance to the Glynwood Park cul de sac. But some of the houses from the cul de sac share the street with Trentham Avenue homes, including number 1 Glynwood Park.

In an attempt to explain the layout Bolton Council has erected a new sign stating that the road is 'Trentham Avenue leading to Glynwood Park'.

The sign has confused Trentham Avenue resident Philip Berry who says its makes to look like he lives on the opposing road. He said: "The sign used to say Glynwood Park leading to Trentham Avenue, I've lived here for 15 years and it's always been that way. The roads are listed the wrong way round so do I now live on Glynwood Park? It looks like everyone is going to have to change their postal addresses.

"I don't understands the logic of it, someone has been incompetent and it's going to cause a lot of problems."

A spokesperson for Bolton Council said they had been contacted by a local resident about confusion with the sign and, on looking into it, found it to be incorrect.

With the sign also needing repairs there was a decision to replace it.

It is believed the old sign was erected by the developer when the homes were built some years ago.

The new sign has been welcomed by some residents, including Pauline Brocklehurst and her partner Howard Ratcliffe.

Miss Brocklehurst said: "Delivery men do get confused, especially when they are trying to deliver to a Glynwood Park house near us but this does help.

"My partner has lived here 40 years and I've lived her 22. It makes sense that it's Trentham Avenue leading off to Glynwood, the new sign is much better."
