A REWARD of £50,000 is being offered for tip-offs over the murder of Paul Massey - known as Salford's Mr Big.

Firearms incidents in early October in Little Hulton and Farnworth are linked to the shooting of convicted criminal who later ran for Mayor of Salford.

Mr Massey, aged 55, was killed outside his home in Manchester Road, Clifton, on Sunday July 26 at 7.30pm.

The shooter fired five times and Mr Massey died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Detective Chief Inspector Howard Millington said: "The key to this murder lies in the community and I believe someone out there knows who did it.

"Whatever you think of police, do the right thing and talk to us. Your information could help to stop further violence in your community.

"I want to stress that if you come forward with what you know, we can offer you complete anonymity and I assure you that you will have our full support."

Detectives want to speak to a man seen at 7pm the Friday before the murder sat in a white Renault Kangoo van parked in Clifton Country Park close to the entrance to Giants Seat Farm.

He was white, in his late 30s to early 40s, about 5ft 10in, averagely built, with a round face.

He wore a black hat, black jacket, grey and black camouflage trousers, and carried a torch and a gun.

Mr Massey's murderer was white and of slim build. He was wearing a hat - possibly fisherman style - a face covering, a green or khaki long-sleeved top and combat style trousers tucked into black, lace-up boots and was carrying a black gun.

The reward is for "for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible".
