GLITZY new nightclub Level is opening for business tonight – and we've had a sneaky look at what it's got to offer.

The club, which sits on the former site of J2 just off Nelson Square, has been given a £700,000 facelift as part of a four month refurbishment.

The Bolton News was given exclusive access to the club, which features a brand new open plan entrance, stunning graffiti style artwork and top of the range lighting on each of its four levels.

Owner Sam Zegrour, aged 30, said: "All we're doing now is getting the finishing touches done. Like with any build we have to do a lot of little things at the end in terms of aesthetics, such as the plastic covering on the walls, so that things don't get damaged along the way.

"The last thing we do is a proper 24 hour deep clean overnight before the doors open on Friday.

"So far we're doing well with ticket sales and all the private booths have been booked out. We are pretty confident it will be really busy and a great launch night."

The club promoter and director of Liverpool-based student events company Cool It Management, took over the nightclub in May. The 1,600 capacity venue will be open to the public tonight(FRI).

Mr Zegrour said: "As with many refurbishments, the job has changed as we have gone along. When you first sit down with an architect and have all these grand plans that look great on paper, they might not translate into real life when you're doing the job, so things do change along the way. Plus, you might have an idea which you think is brilliant, but then someone else points something out that you didn't think of.

"Some of the people worked here when it was J2 and are more familiar with the building than I am have a better understanding about what might not work, so it's about being flexible and realistic."

One of the biggest changes is the entrance to the club, which has had a complete overhaul.

Mr Zegrour said: "We wanted the club to be as welcoming as possible. We don't want people to walk to the front door and feel like they're just being questioned for ID. We want them to feel welcome – as guests in the venue.

"In the past the club was notorious for having a narrow entrance before being thrust into a room. Now we have a grand entrance and when people walk in they come onto an open plan landing where they can choose which level to go to."

Level 3 is also miles apart from what it used to look like.

Mr Zegrour said: "Anyone who was a J2 regular will be shocked at how different it is. You won't believe your eyes."
