TEAM Fury was victorious tonight as boxer Tyson Fury beat Wladimir Klitschko to be crowned heavyweight champion of the world.

The 27-year-old, who trains at the Macron Stadium in Horwich, baffled Klitschko with a stylish, measured performance in which he utilised his height and youth to earn a superb win with scores of 115-112 twice and 116-111.

Fury, who opened the Team Fury gym in Halliwell Road last year, ended Klitschko's nine-year reign with the slick points win in Dusseldorf.

"You're a great champion Wlad, thanks very much for having me," said Fury, moments after his win was announced.

"It was all fun and games in the build-up, I just wanted to be confident, young and brash."

He then burst into a rendition of Aerosmith's hit ballad I Don't Want To Miss A Thing, dedicating it to wife Paris and his fans in Ireland, the UK, the United States and Germany.

Fury, a 4/1 underdog, was backed by his team including family and Bolton-based agent Asif Vali.

Mr Vali lost his 15-year-old son Zak to cancer just nine weeks ago.

Speaking in the ring, after the fight, he said: "It’s nine weeks today he passed away and the team themselves were really behind me when he passed away and supported me.

"They were all there for me so I had to be there for them because I had the experience of doing a world title fight."
