TREVOR Birch has admitted that Wanderers are in an “increasingly perilous” position following a players’ meeting at Euxton this morning.

The insolvency specialist appointed by Eddie Davies to broke a quick sale of the club, which announced on Monday it was unable to pay its senior playing staff, remains confident a solution will be found to end the club’s financial woes.

But Birch has revealed that none of the prospective buyers – thought to include two consortiums led by former players Stelios and Dean Holdsworth – have met the criteria needed to complete a deal.

Neil Lennon and his staff were called to the meeting along with a mediator from the PFA to speak with the squad today and outline the current situation.

“We spoke to the players today and they remain upbeat and committed to doing all they can to help the club through this difficult time,” Birch said through an official statement.

“We’re continuing to negotiate with interested parties but unfortunately no one party has demonstrated all the requisite elements needed to conclude a deal yet. The club’s position is increasingly perilous and new investment is needed quickly.

“We’d like to thank the fans for their continued support and all of the behind-the-scenes staff for their continued hard work in difficult circumstances.”
