A VULNERABLE elderly resident was conned out of tens of thousands of pounds by two men who convinced him to pay for unnecessary roof repairs.

Police have released two e-fit images of the offenders, who targeted the 63-year-old sometime in April or May 2015.

A man knocked on the door of the victim’s home in Granville Street, Walkden, claiming the property needed work carrying out on the roof.

The offender told him it would cost around £60,000 to fix tiles and although the victim said he did not want the work to go ahead, the man convinced him it needed doing.

The victim was repeatedly contacted by phone over a period of two months up until June where he handed over thousands of pounds without any evidence of work taking place.

One man is described as being of mixed race, 5ft 6in tall, had short black hair and stubble on his face.

The second man, who was present when the money was handed over, is described as being white, in his mid-30s, 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in tall, of slim build, clean shaven, had deep blue coloured eyes, a pointed chin, always wore glasses and said he was called ‘Simon’.

Police Constable Sarah Langley said: “The victim is a vulnerable 63-year-old and these men have taken advantage of the trust he has shown in them.

“The man has been able to supply us with enough detail to create an e-fit and I would ask anyone who may recognise them to call us. Have you also fallen victim to them or have they knocked on your door? If so, please call us as soon as possible.”
