SUPERFIT Mark Golding is taking part in the Greater Manchester Marathon — in memory of his aunty.

The 42-year-old, from Deane, has been training for two years to build up to the 26.2 mile race that finishes in front of Old Trafford Football Ground.

To raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Mr Golding has set up a Just Giving page, and is urging people to donate.

He said: “A lot of my family have passed away from cancer.

"My auntie, Eileen McCabe passed away in January 2010 and that hit me hard. I am looking forward to running for her.”

Originally Mark asked for help to find a sponsor for his trainers for the event — and now rsetaurant chain Nandos has agreed to sponsor him.

Mark aims to complete at least two marathons this year, he will run the second for the Headway the brain injury association.

Headways is also close to his heart as his friend Simon Sheridan died as a result of a brain haemorrhage on New Year’s Day 2016.

And in 2009 Mr Golding also suffered from a head injury that left him with a brain haemorrhage and needing medical support.

Mark wants to contribute to developing cures and treatments.

He added: “I want to give a little bit back to the community.”

The race takes place on April 10, 2016.
