BOLTON TV presenter Vernon Kay will present a new motoring show which could go head-to-head with Chris Evans' new series of Top Gear.

Vernon's new ITV five-part show, The Drive, is set to arrive on our screens this summer, and will feature celebrities taking each other in a number of races.

Top Gear is set to be broadcast in May, with Chris, a self proclaimed lover of Bolton's own Carrs Pasties, expected to announce two other presenters who will feature alongside him.

Former Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will also launch their new motoring show on online broadcaster Amazon Prime in the autumn.

Celebrities signed up to appear in Vernon's show include former X Factor judge Louis Walsh, comedian Johnny Vegas, and former Olympic hurdler Colin Jackson.

Vernon said: “Everyone thinks they can drive — but can they?

"This show will test not only their skills behind the wheel but also how they control their fear.

"Drive is not just about straight line speed, all driving skills are going to be tested. But when it’s not your clutch you’re burning or your tyres you’re shredding, it’s full steam ahead!”

Double British touring car champion Jason Plato will also be on hand to offer his expert advice.

Jason said: "I’m excited to see what these celebrities can do behind the steering wheel.

"There is a massive difference from driving a car on the road to taking something to the race track and it will be interesting to see who has what it takes to take their foot off the brake and test their limits."
