POLICE were called out to a "dispute" at residential home in a quiet cul-de-sac.

Officers attended a detached property in Barley Brook Meadow in Sharples on Thursday at 9.05pm.

The home is used by the Birtenshaw charity for supported accommodation for three pupils with physical or learning disabilities who attend Birtenshaw School and Birtenshaw College.

Police were called out to reports of an assault and there were still two vans outside the home yesterday lunchtime.

A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman said: "We’ve been called to some sort of dispute at the address.

"It looks like one of the people who lives there was in dispute with staff.

“They were acting out against them. They were behaving quite aggressively."

A police source described the incident as a "low-level assault by an adult on an adult".

No arrests were made and patrols were still at the scene yesterday.

North West Ambulance Service confirmed a single ambulance attended but did not transport anyone to hospital.

A spokeswoman said details of any patients or injuries could not be divulged as the call out was made to a private residence.

Birtenshaw School’s new £5.6 million campus opened in Darwen Road, Bromley Cross, in 2012.

Birtenshaw College opened in 2014 in a revamped Firwood House and day centre in Crompton Way, Bolton, just outside Bolton town centre to provide education and training to young adults aged between 16 and 25.
