TINY Chewbaccas and little Leias gathered their forces – and descended on a Bolton library.

Bromley Cross Library used the force of Star Wars to help bring a little something extra to Tuesday nights.

Staff donned costumes and made lightsabers for a Star Wars Mania event.

Youngsters were invited along in fancy dress to take part in games, crafts and stories all based around the Hollywood blockbuster franchise.

Abbie Redman, aged seven, from Bromley Cross wore the flowing white dress and brown hair buns of her hero Princess Leia for the evening.

Along with a few other youngsters she was trying her hand at making her own BB8, the star Droid of the newest film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Abbie said: "He's one of my favourite characters, I'm really enjoying it. The event is a lot of fun."

Gary Firth, from Astley Bridge, came along for the evening with his two children, Thomas, aged five, and Isabelle, aged three. He said: "I think events like this are brilliant really, it's a great way of getting people in to libraries and doing extra things. There's so many things like this that can be done to get people into a library, they can do princess nights or maybe something like the Gruffalo!"

As well as making Star Wars characters and pictures, two of the latest additions from University Technical College (UTC) Bolton 'teaching staff' were there to add an extra bit of sci-fi fun.

The 58cm-tall Nao robots dubbed Adam and Eve delighted youngsters and adults alike as they walked and talked among the library's guests.

Jack Murphy, aged three, from Bromley Cross was quick to make friends with the pair.

Mum Marisa said: "He absolutely loves Star Wars. He's never seen the films but learnt all about it through the books, he's always pretending to be Obi-Wan Kenobi at home.

"When we heard the library were doing a Star Wars night I knew we had to come along."

Children also got to try out their lightsaber skills and listen to Sat Wars stories before the evening was finished off with a lightsaber balloon-popping fight.

"Popping all the balloons has been my favourite part," added eight-year-old Rufus Taggart, who came dressed as his favourite character Chewbacca.
