A TEENAGER suffered serious injuries after falling from a bridge on the A666 in Bolton.

Police and the ambulance service were called to the southbound carriageway of St Peter’s Way - near A579 Bradford Street - at 3.38am today to a report of an 18-year-old on a bridge.

She suffered serious head and leg injuries and was taken to Salford Royal Hospital.

Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Both carriageways of the A666 were closed off for investigation, and after about two hours the northbound carriageway was re-opened.

The southbound carriageway was re-opened at about 7.15am.

A police spokesman said: "Shortly after 3.30am on Thursday 4 February 2016 police were called to Haulgh Bridge over the A666 in Bolton. 

"Officers attended and found an 18-year old woman had fallen from the bridge onto the road below. 

"The woman is now being treated in hospital where her injuries are described as serious."

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 3.44am to St Peter's Way near Bradford Street. The patient was unconscious and was taken to Salford Royal Hospital."
