A SCHOOL has received top marks – for helping to make the hopes and dreams of children come true.

Moorgate Primary has received the highest possible marks from Ofsted school inspectors who graded it as outstanding – praising the way it 'ignites pupils’ passion for learning.'

All areas of the school – effectiveness of leadership and management; quality of teaching; learning and assessment; personal development, behaviour and welfare; outcomes for pupils and early years provision were marked as outstanding.

Headteacher Debbie Hopwood said: “We are delighted and proud to celebrate our Ofsted ‘outstanding in every area’ outcome.

“The report states ‘ At Moorgate Primary School, pupils, staff and leaders live up to the school’s motto Aspire, Achieve, Sparkle, each and every day.’ This reflects the hard work and dedication of pupils, staff, parents and governors of our school who all contribute to the team. We truly believe in the “Moorgate magic” that makes this school successful.”

Ofsted inspectors said Mrs Hopwood and her team were doing a tremendous job.

Their report stated: “The headteacher ensures that she listens to the hopes and dreams of pupils and staff. Most importantly she makes it her job to help everyone to try and achieve them. Children in early years are described as starting their education with a “flying start”, with the “atmosphere buzzing with their excitement”.

The report added: “Teachers’ unrelenting focus on securing the basic skills generates strong progress for all pupils. By the end of year six pupils have caught up with, and in many cases overtaken, their peers nationally. Everyone is quite rightly proud of their school.”

Pupils were said to enjoy coming to school, with their behaviour in lessons described as 'exemplary'.

The school is regarded by the local authority as a “beacon of good practice” in early years education.
