There are so many things Bolton has going for it.

Outsiders might ask ‘well, what has come out of Bolton?’ When you take the time to think, the answer is an awful lot.

Bolton gave us the great spinning mule inventor Samuel Crompton, noted physician Sir Thomas Barlow, pioneering politician Sir Daniel Cooper, who helped establish debating rules in the Australian parliament, steeplejack Fred Dibnah and entrepreneur William Lever.

In the world of music, who could forget The Blackout Crew's 2008 bouncy techno/happy hardcore track Put A Donk on It? Check out the video above to refresh your memory.

On the stage, our fair town has given the world Maxine Peake, the late Frank Finlay and gifted to the comedy circuit Peter Kay, Paddy McGuiness and Dave Spikey to name but a few.

And that is not to mention the sporting world: Amir Khan, Nat Lofthouse, Jason Kenny, Tony Knowles, Tommy Lawton, Francis Lee and many more besides.
