A DETERMINED Little Lever schoolgirl has braved the chop for charity.

Nine-year-old Alice Thornton has waved goodbye to nine inches of her brunette locks in aid of The Little Princess Trust.

The St Teresa RC Primary School pupil and Brownie at St Matthew's Church donated the hair to the charity which makes and provides for free real hair wigs for children who have lost their hair through illness.

Supporters have also been helping her to fundraise for the charity, raising more than £1,500.

She was inspired to go for the chop after a family member was affected by cancer and hearing about a young girl who lost her hair because of the disease.

Mum Katie Thornton said: "She was thinking about it for a while but she is a very determined little girl , she knew she wanted to do it. If anything she wanted her hair cut shorter.

"She's absolutely over moon and can't believe how much has been raised. Everyone has been really supportive."

Alice is continuing to fundraise and anyone wishing to support her can visit www.justgiving.com/Alice-Thornton9.
