A BUS firm has launched an investigation after one of its drivers drove around a woman who had fallen in the road before she was hit by a car and killed.

An Arriva bus was one of three vehicles caught on CCTV driving around mum-of-two Louise Wolstenholme after she fell while crossing Bow Street at the junction of Crown Street on the evening of Sunday, January 31.

The bus firm revealed it has launched an investigation.

An Arriva spokesman said: “We can confirm, with regret, that the bus referred to in the incident was an Arriva vehicle. We are investigating the circumstances and co-operating with the police in their enquiries.”

The 52-year-old, of Bury Road, was struck by a Ford Focus and killed a short time after the bus and two other vehicles had driven around her.

Bolton Coroner's court has not yet sent an inquest date into Mrs Wolstenholme's death. However, a pre inquest review hearing will be held on May 24.

Tinashe Irvine Chikoto, aged 22 of Devonshire Road in Atherton, is due to appear in Bolton Crown Court in March charged with causing her death by dangerous driving.

He also faces charges of failing to stop at the scene of a collision; failing to report a collision; causing death whilst unlicensed; driving a motor vehicle without insurance; driving whilst unfit through drugs; and perverting the course of justice.
