THE funeral of a teenager killed in a horror crash will be held tomorrow.

Family and friends of Latham Schofield, of Leverhulme Avenue, Great Lever, will gather at Overdale Crematorium and Farnworth Cricket Club to say their goodbyes.

The 17-year-old former Bolton College student died when the Renault Megane car he was a passenger in hit a tree on Plodder Lane in Farnworth on February 11.

A funeral service for Latham will be held at Overdale Crematorium at 2.30pm. It will be followed by a celebration of his life at Farnworth Cricket club from 3.30pm.

Christine Shepherd, Latham's devastated mother, invited everyone who knew her son to say 'a fond farewell to our gentle giant.' Writing on Facebook, she asked people to 'be themselves and dress how they think Latham would like'.

Latham's friends and family raised more than £400 towards paying for his funeral and donated money to release a lantern in his memory in Great Lever Park.

Following his death Latham's family released a touching statement: "Latham was a loving son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He was always making people laugh. Latham was a Bolton Wanderers season ticket holder and went with his brother Jason to every home match and some away matches.

“He loved his family holidays and we have just returned from a holiday to Pontins at New Year. We all miss him very much. He could be cheeky and silly sometimes but that made us all love him even more. He made us all laugh and when we got a glimpse of his sensitive side we could all see just how amazingly loving and caring he really was.”

Daniel Wilson, aged 18, of Mill Pond Avenue, Great Lever, has been charged with six offences including causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop and report a collision, using a motor vehicle with no license or insurance and using a vehicle with no MOT.

He will appear before Bolton Crown Court on March 9.

An inquest into Latham's death has been set for May 25.
