MISSING street signs in Westhoughton are to be replaced.

Town councillor David Wilkinson reported signs missing from Higher Southfield, Ash Grove, Broadwalk, The Welland and Trackside Approach.

Now Bolton Council has pledged to replace the signs.

A spokesperson said: "The Welland bent frame will be removed and a new nameplate fixed to the fence.

"The Higher Southfield and the Trackside Approach nameplate will be replaced within the existing frame, while the remainder of the street name plate stand at Broadwalk will be removed and the footpath reinstated.

"It will not be replaced because there are another two nameplates on site."

Town Councillor David Wilkinson said while he is pleased some are being re-instated he is disappointed the Broadwalk sign is not.

He said: "I am pleased that they are going to be put back up because some of these have been missing for three or four months.

"I am however a little disappointed about the Broadwalk sign as there is one sign on the opposite side of the road and another is up on the wall, but people don't look 20ft up which is why the lower sign was put in.

"You will see it going down Wigan Road but you won't see it going up Wigan Road towards Westhoughton, so it would have been nice to have a sign in both directions."
