BARONESS Sayeeda Warsi, the first Muslim to serve in a British cabinet will be in Bolton to celebrate Diversity Day in her new role as the Pro Vice Chancellor of the town's university.

Baroness Warsi will be talking on the importance of equality and diversity as students and staff at the University of Bolton will be celebrating Diversity Day with a host of events taking place all day tomorrow.

Celebrations in the Social Learning Zone, Peter Marsh Library and Chancellor's Mall include live music, dance, lecturers and stalls to showcase the rich cultural world of the university and its communities.

Opened by the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Carole Swarbrick, Baroness Warsi will be talking on the importance of equality and diversity in the "inclusion agenda".

Highlights include two special exhibitions on show in The Peter Marsh Library.

We Are Bolton exhibition — a student photography project, commissioned by Cllr Swarbrick, to celebrate her year in office, inspired by the Humans of New York project, and Disability Discrimination Act: Celebrating 20 Years.

This has previously been displayed at the People’s History Museum in Manchester. The exhibition explores the development of the ground-breaking law and what it means to disabled people.

There will also be henna hand-painting, wear a sari, hand massage, breads of the world and Chinese calligraphy.

Sara Burgess, head of library services and Diversity Day champion, said: "We are hoping everyone from the university will be able to find time to join this celebration of our University and its rich cultural diversity.

"Although this is a university event, if anyone form the community wishes to join us they would, of course, be very welcome."
