Thursday night was the time to shine for Bolton bands including Soul Patrol and Bolton Music Service ‘Battle of the Bands’ prize winner Mazebound, alongside the Bolton Beginner Guitar Ensemble, Intermediate Guitar Ensemble, Junior Percussion, Youth Guitar Ensemble and Jazz Combo.

Audiences enjoyed renditions of Stevie Wonder's hit Superstitious, the Honky Tonk Blues and even a bit of Stacy’s Mom by American rock band Fountains of Wayne.

A touch of Brazil came with Kearsley West Primary School Samba Wider Opportunities and Samba Club, while Ladybridge and Turton Junior Strings brought Puff the Magic Dragon and St. Mary’s (Deane) Primary School Ukuleles took on tunes like Katy Perry's Roar.

William Sloane, aged 14, from Bolton has used the concerts to show off his Tuba and Percussion skills.

He said: "Bolton Music Centre is a fantastic place to learn, play and meet new friends.

"We get many great opportunities to perform, such as this week in Music Centre Presents, where I have played in Bolton Intermediate Percussion and Bolton Youth Orchestra."

Around 1,200 children will perform in The Victoria Hall over the course of the week with more than 40 ensembles playing during the series of concerts, featuring children from 12 schools.

The final concert, the Bolton Community Makes Music charity concert, will take place this weekend in aid of charity, Trust Music, and the Save the Victoria Hall Fund.
