NO further action will be taken against two teenagers who were captured on video allegedly hurling abuse and intimidating a passenger at Bolton bus station.

The two girls, aged 15 and 16, were arrested on the following day after the alleged incident, but now police have said they will not pursue charges against the pair.

They were held in police custody following the incident, which took place on Tuesday, January 5 this year.

A bystander recorded a clip of the girls — one spouting obscenities — shouting aggressively at a man sat down in the bus station in Moor Lane.

It also showed the girls remonstrating with the victim — despite his apparent vulnerability.

Social media users reacted with fury after the clip was shared thousands of times on Facebook, also taking to The Bolton News' comment section.

The footage was edited to remove obscenities.

Following the incident, police said they had not received a complaint from the man shown in the video but that they had been made aware of the footage.

At the time, Howard Hartley, Transport for Greater Manchester's Head of Bus, said: "We will do everything we can to support Greater Manchester Police in relation to this matter and would ask anyone with any information to report it to GMP as soon as possible."

Insp Dave Henthorne, of Bolton South and Central Integrated Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We were made aware of a video circulating on social media and launched an investigation to identify the man in the video and also the two girls."

Transport for Greater Manchester had pledged to support the police in their investigations.
