SPORT is full of quirky stories and I came across this one while admiring what I believe to be the best club logo in any sport anywhere in the world.
I clocked the Lowerhouse Cricket Club logo, pictured, on Twitter and contacted the Lancashire League club to express how impressed I was with their website, a pre-season video on the site (go have a watch) and their logo.
They told me the latter was more by luck than design – no pun intended – and that it is folklore how it came to be.
Many decades ago the league said each club had to submit an official badge by a certain date.
Their committee man forgot to do so and on his way to the meeting he traced the badge from a packet of cigarettes, changed it a tiny bit, wrote 'Lowerhouse Cricket Club' at the bottom and handed it in.
Just one of a million wonderful stories local sport throws up.
