MEET teachers Janice Mayoh and Julie O’Connor who have been shaping young minds in Bolton for 30 years.

The pair have worked at Kearsley West Primary School since the day it opened — back in 1986.

The school held its own 30th birthday party — and teaching assistant Julie and nursery teacher Janice were centre of attention.

To mark the milestone, children enjoyed a special party in the morning and in the afternoon there was a class reunion for former pupils.

The women said they had a "really good laugh and chat" with former pupils, reflecting on past experiences and finding out what they had done with their lives.

Mrs O’ Connor said: “We’ve seen the school change and grow but the respect from the parents, and for the pupils, and from everyone around us just makes it so good.”

And the two seemed popular with past students, with one post on the nursery school’s Facebook page describing the pair as “legends”.

Julie said: “That we’ve stayed in one place for so long means we’re very unique which is why we wanted to mark the occasion and celebrate the achievement.

“Kearsley is a good place to be. It’s a very warm and supportive place so we’ve not wanted to go anywhere else.

“We both love our job so 30 years has gone in the blink of an eye really and we’ve had some really wonderful times here — so here’s to the next 30.”
