Man sentenced for pub attacks

A MAN who attacked a man and a woman in a pub has been sentenced in court.
Kevin Swain, aged 34, of Moss Bank Way, Johnson Fold, admitted to Bury magistrates on March 15 that he assaulted Mark McKee and Laura Cook in the New Swan public house, in Spring Lane, Radcliffe, on December 29 last year.
At a further hearing last Thursday, Swain was ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work and to pay £75 compensation to each of his two victims, plus £310 court costs.
He must also stay away from the New Swan for a year.

Drink driver banned from the roads for two years

A DRINK driver who had consumed more than three times the legal alcohol limit has been banned from the roads for two years.
Damon Entwistle, aged 25, of Lincoln Avenue, Little Lever, had denied committing the offence whilst driving a Toyota Auris on Tong Road, Little Lever, on November 1 last year, but was convicted following a trial at Bolton Magistrates' Court.
He was fined £40, must undertake 25 days of rehabilitation activities and was ordered to pay £510 in costs and charges.

Triple assault man spared jail

A MAN who assaulted a woman three times has been spared jail after admitting his crimes.
At Bolton Magistrates' Court Lee Burbidge, aged 32, of Hesketh Walk, Farnworth, pleaded guilty to committing the assaults on December 18, 19 and 26, as well as failing to surrender to court.
Burbidge was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, will be subject to supervision by the probation service and must undertake 20 days of rehabilitation activity.
He was also fined £40 and ordered to pay £380 in costs and charges.

Motorist fined after breath sample failure

MAGISTRATES have banned a motorist from holding a driving licence for 17 months after he failed to provide police with a breath sample.
Aidan King, 21, of Blackburn Road, Egerton, pleaded guilty to committing the offence on March 27.
In addition to the driving ban he was fined £260 and was ordered to pay £111 in costs and charges.

Careless driver fined by court

MAGISTRATES have fined a woman £65 after she admitted careless driving and driving without insurance.
Kimberley Grimshaw, aged 24, of Peveril Street, Bolton, committed the offences on November 14 last year when she was driving a Mini Cooper at the junction of St Helens Road and Morris Green Lane.
Ms Grimshaw was also ordered to pay £105 in costs and charges.

Community sentence for Boxing Day assault man

A COMMUNITY sentence has been given to a man after he admitted assaulting a woman.
Bolton magistrates heard how Andrew Monaghan, 30, of Morris Green Lane, Bolton, committed the offence on Boxing Day.
He was fined £60 and ordered to pay his victim £50 compensation.
Monaghan must also undertake 15 days of rehabilitation activities, pay £410 in costs and charges and a restraining order was made preventing him from going to Chipping Road or Gisburn Avenue, Bolton.

Driver had no car insurance

AN UNINSURED driver has been fined by magistrates after pleading guilty to the offence and to careless driving.
Mbongeni Gumpo, 24, of Marsey Road, Breightmet, was charged with the offences after driving a Ford Cougar at the junction of Derby Street and College Close, Bolton, on Christmas Eve.
At Bolton Magistrates’ Court he was fined £375 and was ordered to pay £178 in costs and charges.

Jail for man who tried to steal from vehicles

MAGISTRATES have jailed a man for 10 weeks after he admitted interfering with a grocery delivery van and a car.
Mark Evans, aged 41, of King Street, Farnworth, was caught interfering with a Toyota Corolla on January 20 and an Asda van on March 25.
The court heard he was on licence at the time of the offending.
In addition to the jail sentence he was ordered to pay the Corolla owner £100 compensation and must also pay an £80 victim surcharge.

Shoplifter jailed after destroying store's security equipment

A SHOPLIFTER who was caught stealing a disposable barbecue and wine damaged the store's security equipment after he was caught.
Najib Faraj, aged 30, of no fixed address, walked into Asda at Burnden Park and stole the goods, worth £16.66, on April 6.
But when caught and taken to the store's holding room, he destroyed CCTV cameras and a security panel, worth £2,000.
At Bolton Magistrates' Court he pleaded guilty to theft and criminal damage.
Magistrates heard he was subject to a conditional discharge at the time of the offences and sentenced him to six weeks in prison. He was also ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge.

Drug treatment order for aftershave thief

A THIEF who stole nine bottles of aftershave from a Bolton department store has been ordered to have treatment for drug addiction.
At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Andrew Murphy, 28, of Averill Street, Manchester, pleaded guilty to taking the aftershave, worth £620, from Debenhams on February 24 and having a foil-lined bag intended for theft.
He was given a community sentence with the requirement to have treatment for drug addiction for six months and he must participate in 15 days of rehabilitation activity.
Murphy was also ordered to pay £145 in costs and charges.

Assault woman given community sentence

A WOMAN has been sentenced to a community order after she admitted assaulting a man.
Amanda Dawson, aged 29, of Victoria Grove, Bolton, initially denied assaulting Gareth Gittings on New Year’s Eve, but changed her plea to guilty at Bolton Magistrates’ Court.
Mr Gittings was not injured and the court sentenced Dawson, who must participate in 15 days of rehabilitative rehabilitation activity, was also fined £10, plus ordered to pay £145 in costs and charges.
