Driver banned for 14 months

A WESTHOUGHTON motorist has been fined and disqualified from the road after drink-driving.

Peter Giles, of Parkway, committed the offence while behind the wheel of a 2013-reg Mercedes E220 in Wearish Lane, Westhoughton, on October 9 last year.

The 57-year-old blew 55mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The limit is 35mg.

He changed his plea to admit drink driving at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court.

Giles was fined £650 and was ordered to pay a £65 victim surcharge and £640 court costs.

He was banned from driving for 14 months.

Westhoughton 61-year-old cleared of sex attack on man by court

A 61-YEAR-OLD man has been cleared of a sex attack on a man.

Frank Leach had been accused of a single count of sexually assaulting the alleged victim on October 3.

He had denied the charge and was acquitted at Bolton Magistrates' Court on Thursday (Apr 3) following a trial.

However, the court imposed a restraining order on Mr Leach, of Collingwood Way, Westhoughton, to stop him contacting the complainant.

Violent attacker jailed

MAGISTRATES have jailed a man for 14 weeks after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman.

David Lowe, aged 35, of Albert Road, Farnworth, initially denied committing the assault on March 3 but then changed his plea.

The court heard that Lowe, who has previous convictions for violence, had been drinking and attacked his vulnerable victim when a child was present.

Woman fined for drug possession

MAGISTRATES have fined a woman and sentenced her to a community order after she admitted possessing amphetamine.

Shantelle Whelan, aged 32, of Platt Hill Avenue, Deane, was caught with the drug on November 16 last year.

She was fined £100, ordered to undertake 12 days of rehabilitation activity and was told she must pay £145 in costs and charges.

Window damage man ordered to pay compensation

A MAN who pleaded guilty to damaging a window has been ordered to pay £250 compensation.

Ariff Khan, aged 24, of Webster Street, Bolton, committed the offence on December 8 last year.

Bolton magistrates also ordered that he should pay an £85 victim surcharge.

Banned driver in court

A BANNED driver who was caught using a vehicle in Horsa Street, Tonge Moor, has appeared in court.

Adrian Sherlock, aged 21, of Pole Street, Bolton, admitted driving a Peugeot 206 on March 28 and having no insurance.

At Bolton Magistrates' Court he was banned from holding a licence for a further six months and must pay £145 in costs and charges.

Shoplifter ordered to have drug treatment

A SHOPLIFTER who stole meat from a Bolton supermarket has been sentenced to have treatment for drug addiction.

At Bolton Magistrates' Court Shelly Greyo, aged 38, of Cecilia Street, Bolton, admitted stealing the meat, worth £32.84, from Aldi on March 29.

He was subject to a conditional discharge at the time and has now been ordered to have drug treatment for three months and to undertake 25 days of rehabilitation activity.

Greyo must also pay a £60 victim surcharge.

Drug treatment order for sat nav thief

A SAT nav thief has been ordered to have treatment for drug addiction.

At Bolton Magistrates' Court Anthony Cadman, aged 47, of Red Lane, Breightmet, admitted stealing the device, worth £150, on March 12.

He was sentenced to a community order, which includes a requirement to have treatment for drug addiction for three months and to participate in 15 days of rehabilitation activity.

He was also ordered to pay £280 compensation plus a £60 victim surcharge.

Man fined over train ticket

MAGISTRATES have fined a train passenger £200 after he was caught travelling between Lostock and Salford without a ticket on January 13.

Daniel Hamilton, aged 29, of St Clare Terrace, Chorley New Road, Bolton, was convicted in his absence at Bolton Magistrates' Court.

In addition to the fine he was ordered to pay £4.90 compensation plus £170 in costs and charges.

Drug-driver banned

A LITTLE Lever man has appeared in court after driving under the influence of cannabis and cocaine.
George Roland, aged 26, of Church Street, drove a Ford Focus in Stanley Road, Whitefield, on January 22 after taking the drug.
He admitted two motoring offences — one for each drug — to Bury magistrates on April 8 and was banned from driving for 17 months, ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and told to stay home from 7pm to 7am daily until May 5.

Attacker must pay out £705

A BREIGHTMET man has appeared in court after carrying out an attack in Radcliffe.
Daniel Atkinson, aged 33, of Church Mews, appeared at Bury Magistrates Court on January 8 and denied that he had assaulted the man on December 6.
However, he was found guilty on April 13 after a trial.
Atkinson was ordered to pay £705 in court costs and compensation and given a community order, which compels him to stay home from 8pm to 6am daily until June 7.

Man who took van found guilty

A FARNWORTH man who took someone else's van has appeared in court.
Jonathan Harrison, aged 26, of Bridgeman Street, took a Vauxhall Combo Van from Bury without the owner's consent on March 20 and was caught by police driving without a licence or insurance in Higher Lane, Whitefield, on the same day.
Harrison appeared before Bury magistrates last Friday and admitted three motoring offences and a charge of wilfully obstructing a police officer.
He was ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work and to pay £220 court costs.

Crash driver is given £216 fine

A MOTORIST who crashed his car into another vehicle has been given five penalty points and a £216 fine.
Jed Leck, aged 25, of Newby Road, Breightmet, crashed his BMW 114i Sport car into a Mercedes in Chapel Street, Tottington, on September 13 last year.
He admitted driving without due care and attention and damaging another vehicle to Bury magistrates on April 13 and was also ordered to pay £270 court costs.

CD thief told he must work

A THIEF who stole a CD and tried to break into two cars has been told he must do 100 hours unpaid work.
At Bolton Magistrates' Court Michael Bates, aged 22, of Tonge Moor Road, Bolton, admitted stealing the CD, worth £15, on March 7 and interfering with a Kia Picanto and a Jaguar on the same day.
Magistrates ordered him to participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities in addition to the unpaid work and he must pay a £60 victim surcharge.

Motorist fined for driving on hard shoulder

A MOTORIST who was caught driving on the hard shoulder of the A666 has been fined by Bolton magistrates.
Mohammed Saeed, aged 25, of Bradford Street, Bolton had denied committing the offence in a Lexus car on the southbound side of the carriageway on October 8 last year.
He was convicted following a trial, fined £200, three penalty points were added to his licence and he was ordered to pay £320 in costs and charges.

Suspended term for assault

A SUSPENDED prison sentence has been handed to a man who admitted assaulting a woman for the second time.
At Bolton Magistrates' Court Mitchell Battel, aged 24, of Bampton Close, Westhoughton, pleaded guilty to beating the woman and obstructing a police officer on December 30 last year.
He was sentenced to 14 weeks on jail suspended for 18 months and must participate in 30 days of rehabilitation activities.
Battel was also ordered to pay £100 compensation plus £165 in costs and charges.
