THREE residents have been fined for fly-tipping as part of Bolton Council's continued crackdown on dumped eyesore rubbish.

The trio were all originally given fixed penalty notices of £75 for leaving back-street waste outside their properties but none failed to pay the fine in time and the authority took them to court.

Each of the defendants – Alexandra Budi, Iveta Kocova and Nicola Lakatosova – was fined £220, plus victim surcharge and costs, coming to an overall total of £1,693.

Councillor Nick Peel, Bolton Council’s executive cabinet member for environmental services, said: "We are determined to crackdown on back street waste, which causes all sort of problems for local residents, from attracting pests to becoming a fire risk. The waste also costs local taxpayers for the council to remove it.

"We will hand out fines to residents who dump waste on the streets and if they do not pay, they may be liable to much bigger fines in court. We hope that these fines act as a deterrent to those thinking of leaving their waste in the back streets in future."

Budi, aged 27, of Eastbank Street, Astley Bridge, left a television table, a plastic oil can and a rack at the service road at the back of her house on December 7 last year.

Kocova, aged 42, of Deane Road, Deane, fly-tipped two bags of general domestic waste and a broken bedside cabinet on land behind her flat.

Lakatosova, aged 18, of Woodfield Street, Great Lever, dumped two bags of domestic waste at the rear of her property.

All three had their cases dealt with on April 18 at Bolton Magistrates' Court.
