AN English band with a coveted history will help rock Bolton for a huge weekend of live music taking over the Macron Stadium this summer.

Reverend and the Makers have been announced as the co-headliners performing at Bolton Live, a new initiative that will see artists play live music in the Premier Suite on Sunday, August 21.

The band, who have supported the likes of Oasis and Arctic Monkeys on tour and had a top ten hit with Heavyweight Champion of the World, are the most recent acts to be announced for the gig aimed at getting Bolton back on the music map.

They will join pop group Scouting for Girls and mod revivals Secret Affair at the 5,000 capacity venue, and tickets are now available.

Venue controller Damian Chadwick, said: "After announcing Secret Affair only last week, I’m delighted to be able to add Reverend and the Makers to the growing Bolton Live portfolio.

"The band have supported some major acts and they’ve played at big venues, so we think they’ll fit right in performing at Bolton Live.

"There is still additions to be made to the undercard, we’re urging fans to spread the word and get their tickets early so they aren’t left disappointed."

Reverend and the Makers, fronted by Jon McClure, have achieved five UK Top 20 Albums including the popular The State of Things and five top five Indie chart singles.

The band have also attract some star studded fans and praise for their fifth album Mirrors, released in October.

Noel Gallagher described the record as "like nothing I've heard since the great concept albums of the '60s" while Carl Barat, best-known for being the co-frontman with Pete Doherty in The Libertines, added: "You can always rely on the Reverend for a volley of lyrical grenades, but ‘Mirrors’ is a magnum opus. He’s a seasoned melodic master too. Just what we needed from Reverend & The Makers."

Reverend and the Makers will take to the stage at the Macron with Scouting for Girls, who had a number one hit with This Ain't a Love Song in 2010, on Sunday, August 21, while tribute band From The Jam, which features Bruce Foxton, the original bassist in The Jam, will perform on the Saturday, August 20, alongside Secret Affair .
