FANS of Bolton comedian Peter Kay will be delighted to hear he is back on the road filming Car Share.

The funnyman has been spotted in Salford filming series two of the award-winning comedy which follows supermarket workers, John and Kayleigh, who are thrown together in a company car share scheme.

Car Share, which also stars Sian Gibson, became the biggest sitcom to premiere on any TV channel since 2011 when it launched, with 6.85 million viewers tuning in for the opening episode.

It was filmed in and around Bolton, Salford and Trafford with viewers regularly spotting familiar landmarks as the story unfolded.

Speaking on BBC Radio Wales in December, he revealed they had written the second series of Car Share and was waiting for lighter nights to start filming.

The 42-year-old, who recently made a list of television's richest stars with a reported fortune of £47m, said: "We wrote it a while back now and we’re just waiting for light nights. You see because we drive around a lot we need to shoot it in May/June. People say why don’t you do a Christmas special? The problem is it goes dark at half seven. You can’t really drive around in the dark."

It has since racked up a host of awards and nominations including four gongs at the annual Royal Television Society North West Awards, including best comedy programme, best post production best script writers and Peter also collected an award for best performance in comedy.

At this year's National Television Awards it was crowned Best Comedy show, beating audience favourites Benidorm, Birds Of A Feather and Not Going Out.

Its stars have also been nominated for awards at this weekend's TV Baftas.
