A 23-YEAR-OLD man led police on a 100mph-plus chase in a high-power BMW car.

Blackburn magistrates heard the pursuit, which was eventually ended when a stinger was deployed, involved officers from two police forces.

Zafar Iqbal Walmsley-Khan, of Clement Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and without insurance. He was committed in custody to Preston Crown Court to be sentenced.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said the car was first seen in Bolton and sped off when police from the Greater Manchester force took an interest.

She said: “The car was driven towards Blackburn and at one stage was doing 103mph on Belmont Road, heading towards the village at about 7.20 pm.

“There were pedestrians on the pavement and cyclists on the road.

“When officers tried to overtake, he swerved to stop them.”

A stinger was deployed by officers from Lancashire police and it succeeded in puncturing three tyres on the BMW.

Peter King, defending, said after the stinger had been deployed, a police car pulled out in front of Khan’s vehicle and there was a low-speed collision.

“Because of the damage caused by the stinger to his wheels and tyres he couldn’t stop,” said Mr King. “He was arrested and immediately accepted his driving was dangerous.”
