A DEAD foal has been left to rot in a country park.
Dog walkers, families and school children have all seen the animal in Moses Gate Country Park.
Lisa Booth, of Farnworth, was out with a group of dog walkers when she passed the foal on Wednesday morning.
Another dog walker said the animal had been lying by the river embankment, close to the park’s toilets, since Saturday.
Despite temperatures reaching around 26 degrees Celsius over the past week the foal has still not been moved.
Mother-of-two Mrs Booth said: “No one seems to want to move the poor thing and its lying there decaying in this heat.
“This is a public park and we even saw school pupils on a day trip pass it while we were out.
“One of the other ladies walking said it had been there since the weekend.
“I called the RSPCA and they told me it must be reported to the council which other ladies have already done.
“Someone needs to take responsibility and move it because it’s not a sight for young children or any other park users to see.”
A spokesman for Bolton Council said: “We have been made aware by several concerned residents of a dead foal in the water at Moses Gate.
“Unfortunately it is resting in the middle of the river and at the top of a weir. Therefore we are seeking specialist support to assist with retrieval.”
