WHILE much of Bolton town centre around it has changed, one shop has truly stood the test of time.
Prestons of Bolton has been prominently positioned at the corner of Deansgate and Bank Street since 1869, the year War and Peace was published and Florence Nightingale opened a women's medical college.
Throughout that time, the renowned jewellery store has displayed its sign above the entrance proudly — and that sign could be about to change.
For bosses, always keen to keep up with the changing times, have asked Bolton Council for permission to illuminate it.
The council's highways officers said they do think making the sign glow would overly distract passing motorists, but a final decision will be made by June 27.
