A BURST water main in Horwich has left properties without water forcing some workers to relocate.

Problems of no water and low pressure were reported at around 2am after a water main burst on Eastgate Approach in Horwich.

Workers at Keoghs at the Macron Stadium relocated to it's headquarters nearby or worked from home.

Middlebrook Leisure and Retail Park was also affected but businesses were able to remain open.

A spokesman said: "We reported the problem at 2am and a sizeable area was affected, but water was diverted as the repairs were being carried out.

"Businesses have remained opened."

United Utilities said that they had received 14 calls from customers reporting either no water or low water pressure.

Just before 7am, United Utilities were able to divert supplies from a different area to ensure properties were not without water, although pressure would remain low.

A spokesperson from United Utilities said: “Our apologies to customers currently without water, or experiencing low water pressure, in the Eastgate Approach area of Bolton.

“Our engineers are working to fix a burst water pipe. Unfortunately, a gas main runs close to the water pipe, meaning we’re having to excavate by hand, which is adding to the repair time.

“We are using tankers to pump water directly into the mains, to keep as many customers on supply as possible, while repairs continue this afternoon.”

The last update on the United Utilities website stated that its team of engineers were still on sight and a new message would be posted as soon as the repairs were complete.
