Here's our guide to what you can do in and around Bolton this weekend.

1. If you love your market then get along to Victoria Square this Saturday between 10am and 4pm for Bolton’s very first Teenage Market. Aspiring young independent entrepreneurs from Bolton and the region will be selling cakes, comics, crafts, jewellery and even homemade dog biscuits.

Young performers will also be showcase their musical and dancing talents and visitors can try sports such as archery, football and boxing.

Cookery demonstrations will be running throughout the day at a mobile kitchen on Victoria Square, showing young people how to make quick, easy and healthy meals

2. As ever there’s plenty of music happening in the evenings this weekend. Kico.Rocks in Bradshawgate will be playing host to two tribute acts. On Friday, Dizzy Lizzy take to the stage followed by Joy Division tribute, Unknown Pleasures on the Saturday.

Doors open at 8.30pm both nights with £7 entry.

3. If you like Saturday night with the lights low, then the Octagon Theatre is the place to go. The world’s longest-running ABBA concert show Thank You for the Music is coming to town to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Swedish super group’s biggest selling hit – Dancing Queen. The million-selling hit is the climax to the stage show which is now in its 23rd year.

4. The Barlow in Edgeworth has got lots of folk fun over the weekend. Starting on Friday from 8pm there will be a music night with Dave is the founder of the Mellstock Band and is an acknowledged master of the concertina, composer, researcher and collector of musical traditions who has provided music for film, television and radio, published books, produced albums and taught and lectured on many aspects of traditional music. Phil studied at Trinity College of Music and later became a trombonist with the Andy Ross Band.

On Saturday they will hosting workshops and a barn dance from 10am to 4pm at the folk club.

5. Meanwhile over at the Churchgate’s Ye Oled Man & Scythe will be playing host to the Marauders. The Lancashire blues band have been together in one form or another since 1981 and gig around the UK supporting legends as Bo Diddley, Steve Gibbons Band, Climax Blues Band, to name just a few.

6. On Sunday families can pay a visit to Smithills Hall off Smithills Deane Road where Bolton Craft Association will be hosting a craft and gift fair from 11am to 4pm. Entry to the hall is free and from noon to 4pm there also a chance to see the Hall’s newest exhibition that tells the story of Smithills through the ages and the people who lived and worked there.

7. It will all be kicking off in Westhoughton from 11am when Westhoughton Active Communities Organisation (WACO) host an It’s a Knock Out competition. The original props from the BBC game show will be the main attraction for the fun day at the Central Drive Playing Fields.

There will also be a funfair, Go Kart track, donkey rides, face painting and balloons, along with a variety of stalls, scooter rally, stilt walkers, local talent showcases and a variety of entertainment and dance performances throughout the day.

Proceed from the event will be donated to the Westhoughton Youth Project, which will be officially opened by Bolton Lad's & Girls Club on the day.
