NHS staff and members of the public are being given a unique opportunity to learn more about people from different backgrounds at a special event in Bolton next week.

The Minerva Restaurant at Royal Bolton Hospital and the foyer of Bolton One will be converted into a ‘human library’.

In the library you can select a 'book' as you would at a normal library — the difference being that the 'book' will be a person.

All the human books have one thing in common - they have all experienced some form of discrimination or hate crime.

There will be an individual with learning disabilities, a Muslim woman who wears a full face veil, a transgender person, a refugee from Tanzania, a Goth and many more people.

Being a reader at the human library gives an opportunity to select 'books' and chat to them about their culture, their circumstances, and how they have experienced discrimination.

This is a unique way to learn more about challenging prejudice, and help us take action against bullying, discrimination and hate crime.

The human library drop-in sessions will take place on:

Wednesday May 25 from 2pm to 4pm at Royal Bolton Hospital, Minerva Restaurant

Thursday May 26 10am to noon at Bolton One

Thursday May 26 from 1pm to 3pm at Bolton One
