A TEENAGE boxer from Horwich delivered a knockout display — when he completed the Great Manchester Run as part of 'Crolla's Army' in an impressive time.

Conor McMyler, aged 19, finished the 10k route in 43 minutes on Sunday, as part of the team led by boxing champion Anthony Crolla.

He harbours ambitions of emulating Mr Crolla by becoming a professional boxer, and he managed to get one over on the current World Boxing Association lightweight champion, by posting a quicker time than his 46 minutes and 42 seconds.

Conor said: "It was difficult, because it was a warm day which made it tougher to run, but it was a great experience.

"Anthony has been very supportive and I have really enjoyed being part of his team."

As well as boxing with the Metro ABC club, Conor, from Horwich, works as an apprentice mechanic at Peugeot.

He first got involved in the Crolla's Army team after reading about its inception in The Bolton News.

His application was successful, and was given the chance to run alongside Mr Crolla, who he has previously sparred with at Gloves ABC.

Twelve runners were selected, to represent one for each round of a boxing fight, to run the 10km course alongside thousands of other runners, including elite runners and those completing the race in aid of charity.

The team all received personal training sessions and pep talks from the man himself.

Mr Crolla, who trains at Gloves Gym in Bolton under the guidance of coach Joe Gallagher, hit the headlines in December 2014 after a world title fight had to be cancelled after he confronted two burglars attempting to burgle his neighbour's house.

One of the intruders attacked him with a concrete slab, fracturing his skull and breaking his foot in two places.

But he has bounced back and retained his title by defeating Venezuelan Ismael Barroso two weeks before the race.

Mr Crolla completed the race to raise awareness and funds for autism charities.
