A CAR ended up on its roof following a collision in Chorley Old Road.

The incident happened just after 6pm today at the junction of Johnson Fold Avenue and involved four vehicles.

Fire crews from Bolton Central and Bolton North, and a Technical Rescue Unit from Leigh, were called to the scene outside the Colliers Arms pub and the road was sealed off.

Residents reported hearing a loud bang and rushed to the road to help.

One resident, who did not wished to be named, said: "When we heard the bang we turned around and saw a black car in the air.

"We heard the impact where it had hit another car. It must have flown 50 feet in the air.

"We ran up to help to see if the people in the cars were all right."

Another resident added: "I'm partially deaf in both ears and I heard the bang from inside the house which is around the corner from where it happened.

"I ran out to see if I could help but there were lots of people there already. If something happens everyone in this street pulls together to help out."

A silver Peugeot soft top which had been caught in the collision was badly damaged and a black car was upturned on the road.

A spokesman for the fire service they were called to the scene at 6.10pm following reports of a collision involving three vehicles.

Three people were injured in the incident, and one remains in hospital. The extent of their injuries is not clear.

One man has been arrested and police are continuing to investigate.
