A FESTIVAL celebrating Kearsley is proving the area can be pretty as a picture.

Organisers of Kearsley in Bloom are putting the community's beauty spots in the frame to help promote the summer event.

Large picture frames have been installed in four different locations around the town with people encouraged to pose up and share their pictures with them on social media.

Tracey Wilkinson, from the Kearsley Festival Group, said: "The frames are a way of trying the get the community involved in the celebrations.

"Some people have already being going out and getting photographs behind them. It's a great way to get the word out about what we are trying to do and have a bit of fun at the same time.

"The wood has been donated by International Timber Ltd and Anthony Axfords, a local firm. The frames have been built and painted by local residents and they are all being installed by the community payback team.

"I went out to see them this morning and they were so enthusiastic about what they are doing, it really helped them and has helped us. It's all about being part of the community."

Frames can be found near Ringley Bridge, Stoneclough Brew, near Moss Lane and Pilkington Road.

In Bloom is celebrating its inaugural year and follows a busy series of events organised by local residents over the course of last year, including the Kearsley Scarecrow Festival and Christmas Tree Festival.

This celebration will see different floral displays going up around the town, with funding from Bolton Council and Bolton CVS going towards a number of large planters.

Members of community are also getting on board by taking charge of the planters and sprucing up gardens and outdoor spaces.

Residents and groups can enter their displays and flowering baskets into the Kearsley in Bloom competition, with prizes for best residential display, best business/organisation display, best school project and best hanging basket/planter.

Entry closes on July 1 and costs £5, with money going towards the organisation of this year's Scarecrow Festival, and winners will be chosen by a panel of guest judges.

Pictures taken with one of Kearsley's big frames can be shared by tweeting to @KearsleyInBloom.
