BOLTON’S very own Batman swooped into action when an injured animal was found by a member of the public.

With the caped crusader tied up in Gotham, Astley Bridge PCSO Dave Kelly was called in to deal with the creature on Wednesday, June 8, after it bit a Halliwell resident who was trying to tend to it.

A police spokesman on the Bolton North Facebook page said: “PCSO Kelly was flagged down in the Halliwell area after a member of the public was bit trying to help the injured bat.

“The bat has now been passed to the South Lancashire Bat group for care.

“All in a day’s work for PCSO Kelly – AKA Batman!”

If you find a bat, or need any advice about them, the group can be contacted on 0161 764 8850.

The spokesman added: “Bats can carry Rabies. If you are handling a wild animal it’s always a good idea to use gloves, or something to protect your hands, such as a tea towel.

“If you are bitten please contact your GP or a suitable medical professional for advice about what to next.”
