MOTORISTS are being urged to consider park and ride tomorrow as the Mancunian Way is closed for a second day.

One thousand free parking spaces will be available to drivers affected by the closure.

Transport for Greater Manchester has worked with the Metrolink operator and the Etihad Stadium to provide the spaces in car park H, off Alan Turing Way, from 6.30am until 8pm.

Staff will be on hand to direct motorists.

The car park is a short walk away from the city centre and is also close to the Etihad Campus Metrolink stop, which provides frequent trams into the city.

The Mancunian Way is completely closed while Manchester City Council undertakes work on it including removing the contraflow system which has been in place since the huge sinkhole appeared last August.

The road will fully reopen at 6am on Wednesday.

Drivers who need to use their cars are advised to allow plenty of extra time for their journeys and avoid using the city centre.
