A SCHOOL has stressed no children have been banned from a supermarket.

School bosses say that children had been asked to stay away from the village for a short amount of time while an investigation into allegations of shoplifting took place.

Headteacher Dominic McKeon said: "As head teacher at Little Lever School I am extremely proud of our students and the way they normally conduct themselves inside and outside of school.

"Behaviour is good across our school and this reflects the courteous and respectful manner of our students.

"The school worked closely with the Police and Tesco to support their investigations and we are satisfied the incident has now been resolved."

A spokesman for Tesco Supermarket said: "We have been working closely with the local school and police, and will continue to support them with their enquires in any way we can."

Some people took to social media claiming a blanket ban had been placed on all pupils of Little Lever School entering the store.

Cllr Rees Gibbon, a director at the school, said he and fellow councillor Sean Hornby met with the head teacher after hearing of concerns.

He said: "The head teacher was working with Tesco and the police.

"I can understand why the head teacher took the action, but I can also understand parents were worried that their children were being tarred with the same brush.

"The issue was dealt with sensitively with class teachers asking children to refrain from going in Tesco and it was for less than a day."

He added: "We have also arranged for the local PCSOs to come into school and speak to children in all year groups about how bad behaviour can lead to problems being caused later in life.

“It has worked out quite well.

"I would encourage other schools to do the same and use the service the PCSOs provide."
