Here's our guide to what you can do in and around Bolton this weekend.

1. It is going to be a busy weekend with lots of big events taking place around Bolton from tomorrow.

Starting things off is the Darcy Lever Village Fair and Scarecrow Festival at 11am.

The event will see scarecrow creations popping up all over the village for the day which visitors are invited to come a view.

A map can be picked up at St Stephen & St Martyrs’ School, in Radcliffe Road, where the main festivities are taking place with stalls, cake and refreshment.

The event will run until 4pm.

2. The Octagon Reveal Season is also taking place from Friday, across the weekend and into next week.

It will see theatre shows popping up around the town, including one featuring a mini tour of Bolton, with comedy and drama pieces. Read more about it here.

3. Teenagers and adults alike can explore the art of Asia at a Chinese painting and drawing session running from 10am to 3pm on Saturday in Bolton’s Central Library.

The free event for people aged 14 and over will be led by Louise Garman, studio holder at neo:artists in Bolton, and is “ideal for students and hobbyists alike!”

4. Saturday evening will see the celebrations of the 10th Midnight Memories Walk in aid of Bolton Hospice.

The fundraiser will start its big anniversary at around 8.30pm in Victoria Square where walkers will join a mass warm-up ahead of the 8 mile challenge.

Actress Maxine Peake will be on hand to start the walk at 9.45pm – get along and show your support!

5. Sunday the action continues with the Cancer Research UK Race for Life Bolton in Leverhulme Park.

Hundreds of women are expected to turn out for the 5k which starts at 11am.

6. Cyclists, runners and orienteers will be spurred on at Horwich in the afternoon for the 2016 Horwich Festival of Racing.

Get your skates on to go down to the race line and cheer on challengers taking part in a number of races from 12.20pm.

7. In Edgworth there will be a Family Fun Day at The Barlow, Bolton Road, on Sunday.

The day of entertainment starts at noon with fairground rides, family tug of war, bouncy castles, a bungee run, children’s races, archery, bowling and live music.

The village’s annual reservoir challenge 10k run also gets underway from the Black Bull Pub at 11am.

8. The Artisan Market celebrates its first birthday on Sunday.

Traders at Sunday, June 19, at Heaton Fold Garden Centre, in Overdale Drive, will be manning a host of stalls selling locally sourced goods.

There will also be a big birthday cake and hamper giveaway.

9. Sunday also means plenty of car boot sales around the area!

They include Cawdor Street Indoor car boot from 6am, Bolton Markets Car boot from 7am, and Westhoughton Market Indoor car boot from 10am.

10. Of course it’s Father’s Day on Sunday and families will be celebrating all over the borough.

To mark the festivities Air Vault trampoline park in Westhoughton Industrial Estate is letting dads in to bounce for free!

11. A Big Band Night at All Souls in Astley Bridge is hoping to get dads dancing on Sunday evening.

The Suburban Swing Band will be playing 1940s tunes, classic hits and more from 6pm. Tickets cost £6.

12. On Sunday Bolton Choral Union will be starting summer celebrations with its Classic for a Summer Evening concert at Bolton parish Church.

Starting at 7.30pm on Sunday, it will include collaborations with top saxophonists, soloist and organists with music by Haydn, Vivaldi and Mendelssohn. Tickets cost £10.
