BOLTON bakers Carrs Pasties will renew its partnership with Top Gear presenter Chris Evans — to cater for a charity event which includes a performance by Sir Paul McCartney.

The family run firm will send a batch of its products to the Dine and Disco event at his Surrey pub The Mulberry Inn, about 200 miles from its Bolton base.

The charity extravaganza, held on Saturday, raises money for Children in Need and will include a musical performance by the former Beatle as well as Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott.

It is the last and tenth time that Top Gear star Chris will hold the fundraising event, with Carrs having participated in the last three.

Chris, also known for his show on BBC Radio 2, first discovered the Bolton firm at a Help for Heroes charity golf event in 2012 at Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire, when he received a sample from the firm on the day, and has since hailed its produce.

Keith O'Hara, who drove across the country to deliver pasties for last year's event, said Chris's favourite pasties is Carrs' traditional meat and potato filling.

He said: "He rings us when he wants some, and we deliver some pasties periodically for his own use.

"Our relationship is very subtle and quiet, we don't mither him. If he wants anything he just rings us and we always look after him. We don't want to court celebrity and it is nice having a subtle relationship."

Other food on the menu at the charity bash includes dishes rustled up by celebrity chefs James Martin and Tom Kerridge.

A quiz will be held, with the top prize being the chance to watch an episode of Top Gear being recorded, and comedian Dawn French will hold a question and answer session about her career.

Carrs Pasties is also set to take part in the Bolton Food and Drink Festival for the first time this August and is also sponsoring the Family Business of the Year in this year's Bolton News/Bury Times Business Awards in September.

The firm was first was founded by Joseph Edward Carr, in Halliwell Road, Bolton — where there is still a Carrs shop — in 1938.
